About BLN

BLN is a cycling group based in Norman, Oklahoma who advocate and promote cycling of all forms in Central Oklahoma. We strive to educate both new and seasoned riders alike in the nuances of road cycling, touring, racing, and mountain biking. The BLN hosts the Norman Conquest, a challenging road tour of Eastern Cleveland county, and the Sooner Stampede, a USAC mountain bike race that is affiliated with the Tour de Dirt State Championship series.

We have members who are heavily involved in the Norman, Oklahoma, and National cycling scene. Our members serve on the City of Norman Bicycle Advocacy Committee which is the city's long range planning board for cycling in Norman, as well as serve as stewards for the Lake Thunderbird Clear Bay Mountain Bike Trail System. One of the premier mountain bike venues in the state featuring over 25 miles of trail. We meet once a month on a revolving basis on the first Monday of every month.

The 2019 BLN kit order has been placed and will take approximately 6-8 weeks for delivery. Instructions for pick up for those that ordered will be provided upon arrival of the order.

Distracted driving tragedies lead some to push for increased awareness

Michael Grimwood wasn’t shot, stabbed or hit by a drunk driver. He was killed by something more common: distracted driving.

Grimwood and Puckett were doing what they often did Saturday mornings: riding bicycles on the shoulder of Highway 77 near Purcell, a stretch of road considered safe due to relatively low traffic volumes and a wide shoulder.

“We had just ridden a 50-mile ride and were two miles from being done when he was hit by a distracted driver,” Puckett said. “Our handlebars were not more than six inches apart when he was struck.”
